PHP 5 was obsolete in December 2018
PHP5 had an extremely long run of 12 years since its release in July 2004. Its final version was PHP v5.6.40 in Jan 2019. We were one of the few to provide it as soon as it was available.
Since early 2016, we have had PHP 7 on all servers, giving you plenty of time to update your websites from PHP 5.
Later this year, we plan to update all our servers to use PHP 7.2 as the default version, making PHP 5 an optional downgrade option.
In January 2020 we will be gradually removing all versions of PHP5 from all servers on our network.
PHP5 Removal schedule:
We will email every customer to let you know when PHP5 will be removed. You should all aim to get your websites up to PHP 7.2 ASAP if you haven’t already done so.
You can also find some helpful PHP Migration guides on the PHP website. These show the end of life for each version and useful migration information.
If you would like any help/advice, please do raise a support ticket ASAP, and let us know.
Upgrading to PHP7 brings far better security and incredible performance. All of our UK Web Hosting servers support PHP versions 7.2 and 7.3.
What about our Databases?
In 2020 we will also be upgrading all MySQL servers to MySQL v5.7. We have already upgraded some servers to MySQL v5.7 with no problems and improved performance.
My hosting company doesn’t provide PHP7:
Do you want to use PHP 7 and take advantage of its performance benefits, security, and functionality?
If your current web hosting company doesn’t provide PHP 7, please contact us to ask about transferring your website to WESH UK. We can transfer the website for you and give you free SSL.
