A Dedicated Server, also referred to as a dedicated hosting service, or managed hosting service is a type of internet hosting in which you lease an entire physical server that’s not shared with anyone else. Your server’s CPU (Brain Power), memory and storage are all for your use only.

This is more flexible than shared hosting, as you will have full control over the server(s), including the choice of hardware. Furthermore, you will have the entire server’s resources at your disposal for more demanding websites or private intranets.

Is a Dedicated Server right for me?

If you offer web hosting services or run sites which require high uptime or server resources, a dedicated server will be perfect for you. All servers include a dedicated port on our Cisco Switch, highly skilled technical support and your own dedicated account managed for the life of your server. Many customers needing a dedicated server, do so because they want to host heavy-duty applications or demand a completely customised environment.

We are finding that 80% of new enquiries asking for a dedicated server do NOT actually need one. Because they have been thrown off an oversold shared server elsewhere, they would actually have no problems at all with our normal shared hosting.

Frequently Asked Questions about leasing a Dedicated Server

Am I entering a contract?

No. You are free to cancel your dedicated server at any time, so long as you provide us with 1 clear calendar months notice.

Do managed servers have root access?

No. As part of our fully managed service, we take care of absolutely everything for you at server level, so we will not provide you with root access, but you will have your own Web Host Manager interface where you can setup all your web hosting plans and individual website cPanels.

How quickly can my server be ready?

From the time you agree our quote and make your first payment, typically 24hrs until your WHM/cPanel login details are handed over.

Can I have a standalone server and DNS?

You can indeed choose a stand alone server. Because this gives you the option to setup your own DNS cluster as you add more servers later. Furthermore, this allows you to have full root level access to your server.
